The cooperation between Kiel University (CAU) in Germany and Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University (KSAEU) in Ukraine depends on people and institutions who contribute funding, expertise and practical assistance. We sincerely thank our funders, German partners and colleagues at both universities for helping students and staff continue their academic work during the war.
Funding the partnership
The current Academic Cooperation and Teaching Initiative Kiel-Kherson (ACTI-K²) is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) through the German-Ukrainian University Network (DUHN), with support from the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). We are grateful for this commitment to long-term German-Ukrainian academic cooperation.
Earlier phases received DAAD support through Ukraine digital: Ensuring academic success in times of crisis, with funding from the then German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). That support helped establish the scholarships and teaching activities on which today’s partnership builds.
Practical support at Kiel University
CAU’s International Center has contributed advice and organisational expertise and financed a project meeting. In the early phases, the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences funded four scholarships for Ukrainian students. The Institute for Statistics and Econometrics funded eight scholarships and two student assistants and co-financed project staff.
We thank these colleagues and institutions for support that extends beyond funding: arranging exchanges, helping with administration and welcoming Ukrainian students into academic life in Kiel. We also thank KSAEU’s staff for coordinating participation and sustaining teaching under difficult conditions.
Encouragement and solidarity
We also acknowledge the encouragement received during the cooperation’s early development from Dr. Ulf Kämpfer, then Mayor of Kiel, and Oleksii Makeiev, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany at the time. Their support forms part of the wider civic and institutional solidarity connecting Kiel and Ukraine.
Above all, we stand with the people of Ukraine and recognise their defence of freedom, democracy and the right to live and learn in peace.
