In March 2022, the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences at Kiel University (CAU) decided to support Ukrainian researchers affected by Russia’s full-scale invasion. The faculty joined the Science for Ukraine initiative and used its own funds to offer two scholarships in Economics and Business Administration. The call was published in April 2022.
The selected researchers were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tetiana Skibina from Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University (KSAEU) and Dr. Yurii Taschcheiev from the National Academy of Science. They arrived in Kiel in June 2022. We thank the Kiel Institute for the World Economy for providing accommodation at Haus Weltclub on the Kiel Fjord.
Skibina’s scholarship was awarded for research into public policy for renewable energy development and the energy-security challenges caused by Russia’s invasion.
We thank colleagues at CAU and KSAEU for developing this academic partnership. The faculty-funded scholarships were an early step; the wider teaching cooperation now receives support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) through Ukraine Digital, with funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). We are grateful to these funders for supporting the teaching partnership.
