On 27 and 28 September 2023, representatives of the cooperation between Kiel University (CAU) and Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University (KSAEU) took part in a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) conference on Ukraine in Berlin. The project was represented by Dr. Anna Titova, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tetiana Skibina and Prof. Dr. Kai Carstensen.

Sharing project experience
The conference brought together teams from DAAD-funded German-Ukrainian university projects. Its theme was “Education in Times of Conflict: German-Ukrainian Higher Education Collaborations between Emergency Aid and Shaping the Future.”
The first day included project presentations and a panel discussion on experiences and prospects for cooperation. For the Kherson-Kiel team, a central point was the need to plan partnerships beyond a one-year funding horizon.
Planning longer-term cooperation
On the second day, smaller workshops considered lessons from existing projects, areas for improvement and possible next steps. A concluding discussion brought these reflections together, including the effort needed to connect Ukrainian higher education with the European academic landscape.
The project team’s conclusion was that sustained political and institutional support would be important for developing the partnerships further. We thank DAAD for bringing the project teams together and for supporting the Kherson-Kiel teaching cooperation through Ukraine Digital, with funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
